The Teachers Arrest
On Tuesday, March 7, 2023, Jacqueline Ma (34) was arrested at Lincoln Acres Elementary School. Ma is a 6th grade, award-winning teacher, who has been working at the school since 2013. According to the National City Police Department, the a parent reported concerns that their 13-year-old child possibly had an inappropriate relationship with the teacher in the past. This prompted the investigation. Ultimately, police found enough evidence to arrest Ma on six felony counts – three each of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14 and oral copulation with a child under 14.
The suspect was booked at the Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility.
There is no information regarding when the alleged abuse happened. The authorities continue to investigate the situation and are urging other victims to come forward.
Some parents expressed concerns about their being other victims, as the teacher has been working at the school for about 10 years.
What Can I Do If My Child was Sexually Abused by a Teacher?
If your child was a victim of child sex abuse at the hands of Ma at Lincoln Acres Elementary School, you could have the right to file a lawsuit against the school and the school district. This is because these establishments have a duty to keep their students safe from absolutely all hazards, including those represented by their staff. All staff must be subject to background checks, complete appropriate training, and be supervised. When there is even the slightest suspicion of sexual misconduct from staff, they must investigate the situation and do whatever is necessary to secure the safety of their students.
Unfortunately, child sex assault in schools continues to be a major problem. In fact, many schools and school districts simply do not take reports or allegations seriously and try to cover them up.
Here at our law firm, we believe that these entities should be held accountable for the sexual assault that innocent students suffer at the hands of staff.
