What Is the Case Value of a Lyft Sexual Assault Lawsuit?
Have you ever found yourself needing a ride to a specific location? If so, you might have used a rideshare service—such as Lyft. Lyft is a ridesharing company that was funded in 2012; today, Lyft operates in about 300 cities in the United States. For many regular Lyft riders, the rideshare company provides an essential service. Lyft provides riders with a convenient method of transportation that is available at all times of the day and goes anywhere riders need to go. Because of this, Lyft has steadily increased in popularity over the years.
Although Lyft is undeniably convenient, there have been plenty of inconveniences hindering the rideshare company’s reputation. There have been many allegations accusing Lyft drivers of sexual assault. Accusations are often directed at the rideshare company; victims claim that Lyft does not take the appropriate measures to prevent their riders from being victimized by their drivers. Were you a victim of sexual assault by a Lyft driver? If so, you can take legal action against the driver and the rideshare company. You have rights as a Lyft rider, and you need the help of an experienced Lyft sexual assault attorney to help you fight for your rights.

Lyft Sexual Assault Allegations
Over the years, there have been many accounts of inappropriate touching and even rape by a Lyft driver. The instances of rider sexual assaults have increased and continue to make headlines. Below, you will find a few of the most recent sexual assault incidents plaguing Lyft:
- In October 2017, a teenager ordered a Lyft home from school. The Lyft driver dropped the teenager at his destination and left. Approximately ten minutes later, the driver returned—knocking on the door and complimenting the teenager’s looks. The male teenager allowed the driver inside the home where he was later sexually assaulted.
- In July 2015, an intoxicated woman was sent home in a Lyft. According to the victim’s testimony, she was unconscious for the majority of the Lyft ride. At one time, she gained consciousness to the Lyft driver’s head on her chest. The next morning, she woke up in her bed; her body was sore and covered in bruises.
- In July 2017, a woman ordered a Lyft ride home after a night out. She fell asleep in the backseat of the vehicle and awakened to find that the driver was not headed to the correct destination. The driver then pulled over, made his way into the backseat, zip-tied her hands behind her back, and sexually assaulted her. The victim was held captive for more than two hours.
In all of these instances of sexual assault, the victims came forward to authorities and accused their attackers. These drivers were arrested and removed as Lyft drivers immediately.
Lyft’s Duty to Riders
Rideshare companies like Lyft claim to prioritize rider safety at all times. However, the incidents mentioned above prove that Lyft has failed to keep their riders safe. What is the main method in which Lyft and other rideshare companies keep their riders safe? All prospective drivers must pass extensive background checks. However, the background checks conducted by Lyft are only allowed to check as far as seven years into a prospective driver’s background. Background checks identify any violent crime, including sexual assault, resulting in the denials of prospective drivers. Although background checks might seem foolproof, they fail to identify anything further back than the allowed seven years. Therefore, prospective drivers that have a history of sexual assault might be allowed to drive for Lyft as long as the last instance of assault occurred more than seven years ago. Some states have responded to this fault in background checks by allowing rideshare companies to check lifetime backgrounds of those interested in becoming rideshare drivers. Even though background checks are stricter than before, sexual assaults continue to happen. Lyft has been unable to identify all drivers with histories of sexual assault because many of these drivers do not have official records. Unfortunately, many victims of sexual assault never make formal accusations against their attackers; therefore, sexual predators often have clean backgrounds and are allowed to drive for Lyft and other rideshare companies. Lyft removes much of its liability from sexual assault claims because all drivers are considered independent contractors; however, they might have some liability for negligently allowing those with histories of sexual assault to drive and come into contact with riders. For more information about how Lyft and the Lyft driver can be held accountable for the sexual assault you suffered, you must immediately contact our law firm and speak with our attorneys.
Compensation Available for Sexual Assault Claims
What amount of compensation are victims of sexual assault eligible to receive once they file a claim? Many victims of Lyft sexual assault contact our law firm with questions about the value of a Lyft rape case. The average value of a Lyft assault case depends on many things—including the type of compensation victims are eligible to receive. Some of the categories of compensation available for the victims of Lyft sexual assaults are listed below:
- Medical expenses
- Lost wages
- Pain and suffering
- Loss of consortium
- Punitive damages
Lyft sexual assault settlement amounts depend on the specific details of claims. For example, if victims did not lose wages and did not acquire any medical bills, they would not be eligible to recover compensation for those categories. The case would be worth more if the victim suffered severe injuries which left him or her unable to work for some time, for example. You might be hesitant to seek legal action if you believe that your case is not worth much; however, you should speak with our attorneys regardless. Our attorneys will help you understand your claim and how much a Lyft sexual assault and battery case can be worth. Our attorneys will review every aspect of your claim and help you understand even how the details that seem irrelevant can affect your case’s value.
Sexual Assault Settlement Amounts
How much is a Lyft sexual assault case worth? How much can a victim of sexual harassment receive from Lyft? Many victims of Lyft sexual assault have contacted our law firm with questions similar to the questions posed above. Because rideshare settlement amounts are often confidential, it can be difficult to establish the average case value for a Lyft sexual assault case. In the list below, you will find some examples of sexual assault settlement amounts:
- $82 million—the victim was the target of inappropriate sexual comments and unwanted touching.
- $8.4 million—the victim was the target of unwanted sexual comments and sexual advances.
- $6 million—the victim was harassed and sexually assaulted.
- $22 million—the victim was attacked by a driver who continuously made unwanted sexual solicitations and used inappropriate and offensive words to refer to her.
- $20 million—the victim was the target of sexual harassment.
- $1.5 million—the victim was the target of sexual advances because of her gender.
- $1 million—the victim requested a ride from a rideshare company; she was later sexually assaulted and raped by the driver.
If you were sexually assaulted, you might have grounds to file a lawsuit and recover monetary compensation. The settlement amounts listed above have the purpose of exemplifying the possible outcomes of sexual assault lawsuits. For additional information about the value of your claim, you must speak with our attorneys as soon as possible. Our Kenmore Law Group attorneys will evaluate your claim and give you all the information you need to understand the value of your case.
